More than a logo, the snowy owl is Kanuk’s most recognizable signature. It’s rooted in Québec and present on every piece we create.

What is the story of Kanuk?

Kanuk was founded in 1974 in a small Montréal workshop with a mission to create outerwear built for Québec’s distinct climate and way of life.   

For over 50 years, we've been committed to and inspired by the people who wear Kanuk. Every garment we design reflects the community that shaped us; honouring the local traditions and joie de vivre that defines life in Québec.

How do I check the status of my order?

You can check the status of your order in your account.

Can I modify or cancel my order after it's been placed?

Unfortunately, once an order is placed, it cannot be modified or canceled. Please double-check the ship-to address before finalizing your order.

What should I do if my orders gets cancelled?

If your order is cancelled, we’ll notify you via email. If the cancellation is due to lack of inventory, we’ll retain your information and add you to a waiting list.

Do you have gift cards?

Yes, Kanuk offers gift cards. If purchased online, you’ll receive the gift card code by email. If purchased in-store, you can request a physical version.

Where do you ship to?

We ship to Canada, the United States, and the Eurozone. For shipping to other countries, contact us at info@kanuk.com for a shipping quote.

What are the shipping options, costs, and restrictions on orders?

For orders to Canada:

  • Orders over $100 CAD before applicable sales taxes qualify for FREE STANDARD SHIPPING.
  • Orders below $100 CAD before applicable sales taxes incur a $10 CAD shipping and handling fee plus taxes.

For orders to the United States:

  • Orders over $100 USD before applicable sales taxes qualify for FREE STANDARD SHIPPING.
  • Orders below $100 USD before applicable sales taxes incur a $10 USD shipping and handling fee.

For orders to the Eurozone:

  • Orders over $1000 EUR before applicable sales taxes qualify for FREE STANDARD SHIPPING.
  • Orders below $1000 EUR before applicable sales taxes incur a $30 EUR shipping and handling flat fee.

For all orders, some items may be subject to delivery restrictions based on type, weight, and size.

*Please note that we cannot deliver to a PO Box and insurance is not included in our shipping quotes.

How long does shipping take?

Standard shipping to Canada takes 1-7 business days after receiving your order confirmation, with possible delays during high seasons, sales campaigns or postal interruptions.

Is there sales tax for orders?

Any applicable sales tax or VAT will be calculated at checkout.

Are prices inclusive of custom fees and duties?

Any custom fees, duties & tariffs are included in our prices and will not be charged at delivery.

How can I track my order?

When your order leaves our warehouse, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with a tracking number. Please note that tracking information may take some time to be uploaded. You may also track your order in your account.

Will my orders be fulfilled in one package?

Orders containing multiple items may be fulfilled from multiple locations so may be delivered in more than one shipment. In this case, you will be notified via email and will receive distinct tracking numbers.

What is Kanuk's return policy for Canadian and U.S. orders?

The merchandise must be in its original condition (new, unused, unwashed, and unaltered) and its original packaging with the labels attached.

  • Full price: You have 30 days from the delivery date to return a full price item purchased on kanuk.com, free of charge.
  • Sale items: You have 15 days from the delivery date to return a sale item purchased on kanuk.com, free of charge.
  • Final Sale: All items sold at 50% off or more (before taxes) are considered final sale and cannot be returned.
What is Kanuk's return policy for Eurozone orders?

The merchandise must be in its original condition (new, unused, unwashed, and unaltered) and its original packaging with the labels attached.

  • Full price: You have 30 days from the delivery date to return a full price item purchased on kanuk.com, free of charge.

If Kanuk provides a return label for returns from the Eurozone countries, a flat fee of $50 CAD (before VAT) will be deducted from the total refund amount.

How do I return an item purchased from kanuk.com?

If it is an order purchased directly from kanuk.com and it's not a Final Sale product, you can request a shipping label using our Return Portal or by visiting us at one of our stores with your purchase receipt.

How do I return an item purchased in store?

The merchandise must be in its original condition (new, unused, unwashed, and unaltered) and its original packaging with the labels attached.

Your purchase receipt (or a clear copy of it) will be required to process your returns of our merchandise purchased in-store.

Can I exchange instead of return?

Unfortunately, Kanuk does not offer direct exchange. To exchange an item from your order (provided it is not final sale), return it for a refund and place a new order. Please ensure to return your item using the Return Portal or visiting our stores following the return process set out above.  

You are welcome to wait until your online return has been processed through our portal and credited before making a replacement purchase. All replacements are subject to availability. 

Insulation

What are the different temperature ratings for Kanuk coats?

Kanuk coats are engineered to protect against extreme temperatures, with comfort ratings ranging from 0°C to -35°C.

Our collections are categorized into four comfort zones: 0°C to -10°C, -10°C to -20°C, -20°C to -25°C, and -25°C to -35°C.

These ranges are provided as general guidelines. Individual cold tolerance can vary based on external factors like wind and humidity, as well as internal factors such as physical activity, fatigue, and overall health. For this reason, the effective comfort zone may shift by approximately ±5°C in either direction.

What is down, and what type of down does Kanuk use?

Down is the soft, lightweight layer found beneath the outer feathers of a water bird. Its exceptional insulating power comes from its natural structure: each cluster contains thousands of fine filaments that interlock to trap air, forming a thermal barrier that retains body heat while remaining breathable. This composition delivers warm insulation with minimal weight.

Kanuk uses a premium 90% duck down / 10% feather blend, offering high-performance insulation that combines loft, comfort, and durability.

Certified by the Responsible Down Standard (RDS), our down is ethically sourced, ensuring the humane treatment of animals and full traceability from farm to finished garment.

What is Thindown?

Thindown® is a patented insulation fabric made from real down feathers, engineered to provide warmth in a thin, lightweight format. By blending natural down with synthetic fibers and compressing them into a uniform sheet, Thindown® creates a versatile material that can be cut and sewn like traditional fabric. This technology provides warm insulation without bulk.

What is synthetic?

Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft®, is engineered to replicate the insulating properties of natural down. Made of ultra-fine polyester fibers, it retains heat & dries quickly. Lightweight and breathable, it offers reliable warmth even when wet.

Care & Maintenance

How do I wash a synthetic-insulated coat?

How to care for your winter coat, shell, or raincoat with synthetic or Thindown® insulation without damaging it:

  • Machine wash in cold water using a front-loading washer.*
  • Use a mild, bleach-free detergent.
  • Remove any detachable fur or visors before washing (if applicable).
  • Close all zippers and detach the hood from the collar (if applicable).
  • Tumble dry at low heat for synthetic insulation. For coats with Thindown®, tumble dry at medium heat.

Important care notes:

Do not dry clean. Do not wash the fur. Do not use bleach or detergents containing bleach or stain removers. Do not iron. Do not use fabric softeners. Do not tumble dry at high temperatures, this can damage the insulation and reduce its performance. Always ensure your coat is completely dry before storing.

*Note: Always use a front-loading machine. Top-loading washers are less effective as Kanuk coats repel water and tend to float, leading to poor washing and rinsing results.

How do I wash a down-insulated coat?

Down insulation can be machine washed or dry cleaned, but it’s essential that the coat is thoroughly clean after the process. If down clusters are clogged with dirt or dry-cleaning solvents, their insulating loft will diminish.

  • Wash in cold water using a front-loading washing machine.*
  • Use a bleach-free detergent specifically formulated for down.
  • Remove any detachable fur or visor before washing (if applicable).
  • Always close all zippers and remove the hood from the collar (if applicable).

Tumble dry on medium heat with clean drying balls to prevent clumping. This may require several drying cycles. Check between cycles and gently break up any lumps by hand. Ensure the coat is
completely dry before removing it from the dryer.

What is the warranty on Kanuk coats?

We at KANUK® are proud to stand behind our authentic KANUK® products by offering our customers a full warranty on any defects in our materials (exterior material or shell, and insulation) or workmanship in accordance with the below terms, whether originally purchased online at kanuk.com or from one of our KANUK® stores.
