Kanuk was founded in 1974 in a small Montréal workshop with a mission to create outerwear built for Québec’s distinct climate and way of life.
For over 50 years, we've been committed to and inspired by the people who wear Kanuk. Every garment we design reflects the community that shaped us; honouring the traditions and joie de vivre that defines life in Québec.
Our heritage has been rooted in craftsmanship, comfort, and care. We continue to honour this legacy by weaving our signature design details and symbols into every garment.
Kanuk’s iconic logo, The Snowy Owl, is deeply tied to our identity. The official bird of Québec, it is a symbol of resilience, wisdom, and guidance. The most iconic representation of our logo is found on the inside sherpa collar of our coats and has been recognized over generations.
Kanuk revolutionized coat manufacturing and broke convention in 1974 with the original Taïga Parka jacket. Designed for Québec’s humid winters, the Taïga featured a no-seam body, moisture-resistant lining, fleece interior, sherpa-lined collar, and a signature silhouette that defined Kanuk’s heritage.
Kanuk has evolved into a lifestyle brand celebrating Canadian country living: rooted in the land, shaped by the seasons, and inspired by the everyday rituals of Quebecois culture. Fishing on lakes in the Eastern Townships, tending a garden, or gathering with family or friends at home, all of these moments of connection guide our approach to design.
For 50 years, Kanuk coats have been passed down through generations. As Kanuk expands beyond borders, our community’s loyalty and their connection to our story is at the heart of who we are.
As we bring Canadian country living to the rest of the world, we bring with us the character and culture of our Montréal beginnings.
